Do You Know The Difference Between Norstar and Meridian?
Unfortunately over the years, there has been a little bit of "brand confusion" infused into the market from Nortel Networks. The most confusing of this is centered around the word "Meridian". From way back when, Nortel has always produced two very separate lines of telephone equipment.
One system was designed for smaller offices. Up to 250 users or so. These smaller key phone systems were dubbed with the names Norstar , Norstar Meridian, Norstar Plus.
The other phone system was always their large flagship PBX product designed for 250 users to 10's of thousands of users. This product was ALWAYS refereed to as Meridian or Meridian1.
It's obvious at this point, that there are major differences between the two lines with one costing only hundreds or thousands of dollars and the other costing 10's to 100's of thousands and up.
At the time of this writing, the smaller key system line is most definitely always labeled as "Norstar Phone Systems" while the larger PBX line has carried on the Meridian name and added to name Succession © to the line up.
However, a lot of customers still remember their older Norstar phone having the word Meridian emblazoned across the top in a pretty silk screen. And yes, this does confuse our customers.
So our advice when searching for a new phone system or equipment to match your current phone system is to take a few minutes and be sure to identify which line of equipment you have. You will save yourself a lot of headache in the end.
The simplest way to do exactly that is to know the model number of your phone. A quick look at the tag on the bottom of the phone will reveal the exact product line your phone belongs to.
Below is a quick breakdown of every phone ever made from each Nortel series as well as a few quick links to get you to the correct section of our wesbite.
